Who’d have thought after only making a few full England squad in mid 1990’s, I’d be representing my country in my 38th year? But I got a call from Chris Waddle the other day, and I’m excited about representing my country in a match against the old enemy. We’re playing Scotland in an 11 a side game at Dunfermline’s East End Park on Thursday 15th of April. I think this is going to be an annual fixture, I certainly hope it is!! I’m also playing for England in a 6 a side version of Masters Football – this time in Cardiff on Friday, 2nd of April. It’s a Home Nations event – so we’ll be meeting a few of
the Scottish lads in a warm up for the 11 a side game two weeks later. Wales have won this tournament a couple of times and with having home advantage they may be favourites. But without knowing exactly who’s playing, it’s difficult to make any predictions. I’m still disappointed after coming so close for Newcastle in the club competition last season – this year we’re determined to lift the cup!

Looking at Newcastle’s win at home to Middlesbrough last weekend, it was a game to forget – unless you’re called Alan Shearer or Craig Bellamy. It’s been a while since the pair of them registered goals in the same Newcastle game – and I’d like to think it’s the start of another healthy run for them both. Al made me laugh the other day, a question was put to him by a journalist regarding his ‘goal draught’, the lad said something like “you’ve only scored 2 goals in 12 games”…quick as a flash, Al hit back, with “yeh, but that’s 17 in 26 games!” The moral of that story…don’t throw stats at Alan Shearer!!!

Ticket details for the Masters 6 a side – £15 adults, £10 children please see TicketmasterTicket details for the 11 a side game – I believe same price as above, but call 0870 3001201 for info.
