A Classic Again! - 03/09/2002
He needed a penalty this time! |

I was a substitute in both of the classic 4-3 games at Anfield, and although I wasn’t involved in this one, from what I saw I’d say it was nearly as good. It was more like the second 4-3 as Liverpool were able to dominate for large periods of time. If it had been a boxing match, I’m sure the referee would have stopped the contest. But football is about 90 minutes, and over the full game, I feel that we justified our point. If the game had gone on much longer, I think we could have even won it. A lot has been said about the team’s character, and this was a great example of the ‘never say die’ attitude that we have. The boys were very pleased with the comeback and it was a happy group that left Anfield.
We’ve a break now as there’s no game at the weekend due to the England Portugal game. It’s Leeds on the following Wednesday and then we’re away to Chelsea. With the Liverpool game just gone, that’s three big Premiership games on the bounce. If we can pick up points over this period I really think it’ll put us in a very strong position. Looking at the fixture list I also see that we’ve the two Champions League games with the Sunderland derby sandwiched in between!
