Bristol City took less than three minutes to score the winner as they edged past Wrexham 1-0 and made it 11 straight victories to stay top of Division Two.Luke Wilkshire rifled home from Aaron Brown's cross for his third goal of the season as the home side began in confident style.

They were almost two goals ahead inside 10 minutes but Lee Peacock's 20-yard effort went just the wrong side of Andy Dibble's upright.Tommy Doherty, back from Northern Ireland duty in mid-week, seized on an opportunity as City dictated the play but Stephen Thomas was able to block the shot.City have averaged two goals a game on their incredible winning streak, and looked on target to double their advantage before the break.

Lee Miller sent a 25-yard drive over the bar, and Peacock was again in the thick of the action as he shot wide twice with efforts from the edge of the area.Wrexham had gone into the game boosted by the return of Brian Carey following a hamstring injury, while both Dennis Lawrence and Darren Ferguson played their last games before starting suspensions.

Carey's first significant involvement was bringing down Peacock to concede a 28th-minute free-kick, but when Wilkshire fed Aaron Brown in the area he saw his effort blocked by Stephen Roberts. Wrexham had lacked a goal threat in the first half until Chris Armstrong's cross was deflected behind and Ferguson picked out Armstrong with the corner. But the striker's effort was blocked by Matt Hill.

On the stroke of half-time, another Wrexham corner saw Dennis Lawrence's header bring a fine save out of Steve Phillips.Wrexham sent on Trinidad & Tobago international striker Hector Sam for Thomas at the break as Wrexham manager Denis Smith sought more of a goal threat. But they were under more pressure at the start of the second half, Brian Carey having to block a shot from Miller before Wilkshire tried his luck from 20 yards but saw his curling effort go wide.

Dibble then punched clear when Louis Carey's cross picked out Brown in the area. Wrexham were not out of it though, and Sam shot wide from long range to serve notice that at least a point was still up for grabs. But Dibble produced a double save 17 minutes from time to keep his side in it. He turned  away substitute Leroy Lita's shot from a Brown cross, then parried Peacock's effort.
