The rub of the green - 19/11/2003

The rub of the green
Jonny who?

Two goals in two games for me, and two away wins, I’m happier. To be honest I’m not doing anything differently, it’s just that the team and I are getting the rub of the green. I’ve practised shooting in training for the last few weeks, but in games gone by I’ve had up to five or six shots, all of which have been saved or off target. On Saturday I scored a decent goal – but it was my only shot at goal. But that’s just football, some days they go in, and on others they don’t. We’re played decent football for most of the season and haven’t got much reward, let’s just hope we’re at the beginning of a good run.

With Barnsley coming to Ashton Gate this weekend, we’ve a good chance to close the gap on the second placed team. There’s no point getting carried away, but the boys are buzzing at the moment and we’d like to think that we’re more than capable of getting three points against Barnsley. If we’re going to get automatic promotion, it’s games such as these that we should be winning – I’m not saying must be winning, because we can lose the next three games and go up as Champions! We’re looking forward to it and we’ll approach the game with confidence.

I’m also looking forward to Saturday morning! The boys were quite confident that the Kiwis were going to knock us out of the rugby World Cup, so I turned up to pre-match last week with a beaming smile. I also took a few bets, so yes, it was more than a good day for me! Ask any Aussie if they’re confident of winning the cup and you’ll get the same reply – yes!! I honestly can’t see England getting more than 16 points and I think we’re capable of getting around 28. Everyone knows that England and Jonny Wilkinson are an excellent side, but Australia have the knack of pulling out results when they really need to. OK, the Pommies have beaten us twice during the last couple of games, but neither matches come close to the important of the World Cup – and those results will mean nothing on Saturday!
