Solano Sees Future at Villa - 25/01/2005

Aston Villa winger Nolberto Solano wants to spend the rest of his Premiership career at Villa Park.

Manager David O’Leary has hailed the 30-year-old as his best value-for-money buy after signing the Peru international from Newcastle a year ago.

Solano has 18 months left on his current deal and has insisted Villa will be the last club he plays for before heading back to South America.

Although he is not pursuing contract talks, Solano feels he can continue playing in the top flight for three more years.

He is the club’s leading scorer this season with seven goals and become a big favourite with the Holte End.

Solano said: “I am very happy here and I want to finish this part of my career here. I have one more contract in me.

“In my mind my idea is to play two, or three years maximum here at this level of competition and then maybe go back home or coach.

“I think this will be my last team in the Premier League because I don’t like to change clubs. I like to be in one place.

“The manager and the club have supported me but I’m not desperate to sort anything out and I’m not thinking about a new contract.”

O’Leary said: “Nolberto has done phenomenally well for us and I just can’t believe that I was the only one chasing him this time last year.

“I can’t believe for just over a million pounds that we didn’t have more opposition when he was available at Newcastle.

“I think in general I’ve been lucky in buying a lot of good players over the years but I’ll never spend another million and a bit any better than that really.”
