Villa's Solano fit to play for Peru

Peru captain Nolberto Solano is fit to face Chile in tonight's World Cup qualifier, team doctor Ramon Aparicio said yesterday. The Aston Villa midfielder arrived in Lima from England on Monday with an injury to his right leg. But Aparicio told Peruvian media that scans showed Solano had suffered a simple bruise rather than a pulled muscle.

"The player is fit to play on Wednesday," Aparicio said. Peru are ninth in the 10-nation South American World Cup qualifying group with 10 points from 10 games, three behind fifth-placed Chile.

Striker Claudio Pizarro has also been passed fit although he said yesterday that he would not be 100 percent. The Bayern Munich player has not played for his country since suffering a head injury during a Copa America match against Venezuela in July.
