Solano staying in toon
Robson - 'not interested in selling'

Sir Bobby Robson has confirmed he will look to make two signings in January, but is not interested in selling Nolberto Solano.

Peruvian winger Solano is reportedly unsettled at St James' Park after losing his place on the right-hand side of midfield, but Robson still rates the schemer highly and is pleased to have a wealth of midfield options at his disposal.

"I am not interested in selling Nobby even though we have a lot of competition in his position," said veteran tactician Robson.

"He is a class player and I want him to fight for his place like Lee Bowyer and everyone else. You need that competition."

Robson's charges are some way off the hot pace set by Chelsea in The Premiership, and the former England chief is looking to bring in some fresh faces in a bid to spark their challenge for honours.

"I would like to get two players in next month and I know the two positions I want to strengthen," he added. "The right of midfield is not one of them."
