Liverpool Down, Arsenal Up! - 08/03/2002

"The last two games have been very disappointing and I’m even more determined to make sure we get something out of this Arsenal game. If you look at the goals we have conceded, you’ll see that most have come from individual mistakes, and you simply cannot plan for things like that! We’ve played two very solid defences who haven’t given us the chances we’ve presented to them. If we can cut out our mistakes, we only need one moment of brilliance or one mistake from them and we’ll be in the semi-final. Lets just hope we get a bit of luck.”

”I’ve been asked if I think that Arsenal will miss Henry with him being banned, well they didn’t seem to miss him last week! They have so much quality up front, Wiltord, Bergkamp, Kanu, that his loss isn't so noticeable. It would be different if a 17-year-old kid was replacing Henry, but the three other strikers are all experienced and all highly technical players. Then you look at our situation, we’re now playing without two or three key players and it shows. Basically our squad isn’t as large as the Manchester United’s, Arsenal’s and Liverpool’s…but that is just something we have to deal with, it’s not like a handicap race where we’ve given a goal head start!”

”The injury news has been good recently and it looks as if we’ll be close to full strength for the Ipswich game a week tomorrow. I honestly think we’re still in with a chance of the Championship. I know that Chelsea and Leeds both won mid-week, but if we failed to qualify for the Champions League, then that would be so hard to take. We have to look at 4th place at worst and aim for the top spot – we can do it! So it’s a big game tomorrow, I’m looking forward to the game and I want a win to put the smile back on our faces!”
