Nolberto Solano believes Sir Bobby Robson will take Europe by storm if Newcastle can successfully negotiate their passage through to the group stages of the Champions League.United are a draw away from qualification following their magnificent 1-0 victory over FC Zeljeznicar in Sarajevo on Wednesday night and Solano says his manager will relish the stiffer tests which lie ahead.

The Magpies' Peruvian midfielder has made no secret of his own desire to perform in the world's greatest club competition but he admitted: "Nobody is more excited than the gaffer. He's glad to be back in Europe and we're glad he's with Newcastle when we go to places like Sarajevo. He has coached clubs like Barcelona and Porto at the highest level and he enjoys the challenge as a manager. He has a lot of experience and he has told us how important it is for Newcastle United to qualify for the Champions League."

There is no doubt that European football will be a better place with Robson on the scene and any coach, young or old, would love to pit his wits against the former England manager. Mindful of Newcastle's battling performance against Fabio Capello's Roma three seasons ago, Solano is confident that Newcastle's boss could hold his own against any coach in the world. And the experienced South American revealed: "I know how much those Champions League games would mean to Bobby and he's a match for any coach in Europe. He is very clever with his tactics and his team selection when we go away. The gaffer knows that a 1-0 win in Sarajevo is a good result and he will have us well prepared for the second leg."
