Nolberto Solano admitted he was disappointed after being substituted

by Sir Bobby Robson in Saturday's FA Cup tie at Anfield.

The Magpies' 7,000-strong following at Liverpool had chanted the Peru

captain's name after he was brought off in the 68th minute, with Shola

Ameobi being sent on by Sir Bobby Robson to partner Alan Shearer up

front.

It was the sixth consecutive game that Solano has been replaced by

Robson, but the 29-year-old accepted that it was his manager's call.

"I can do nothing about it, it is the manager's decision," said

Solano. "He's the boss. I was a little disappointed because I wanted

to be in the game, to be involved and maybe do more for the team but

there is nothing I can do after I have been substituted."

Sir Bobby stood by his decision, insisting that he needed to change

things around for United to stand a chance of getting back into the

game, with Kieron Dyer moving to wide right having started the game up

front.

Robson said: "I thought Kieron Dyer's pace out wide right might help

us get behind their full-backs. I thought we needed someone stronger

through the middle and so I brought Shola on."

"The biggest disappointment was our forward play, it was poor and we

didn't look like scoring another goal. We had no penetration down the

flanks or through the middle."

Meanwhile, Jermaine Jenas, who had two good first-half chances at

Anfield, was gracious in defeat following Newcastle's FA Cup exit.

Jenas said: "To be fair, I think they came out and were the better

team in the second half. We weren't really at the races in the second

half and they punished us.

"There's no disgrace in going out to Liverpool. Not many people can

come here and dominate like we did in the first half.

"We were on top, we didn't want half-time to come, we were trying to

carry on and nick a goal. But we didn't really have many chances. We

got into good areas but never produced an end product. When you get

into good areas you need to create chances and we didn't do that."
