Turning the corner - 25/02/2004

Our inability to turn draws into wins is costing us badly. During the Wycombe game we absolutely hammered them, but couldn’t put the ball in the back of the net. They played with 11 men behind the ball and made it very difficult – credit to them, they stopped us scoring. We look at the league table and see that we’re within reach of the play-off’s, but in order to qualify, we have to turn the corner and start scoring goals. The gaffer’s brought in Dan Nardiello on loan from Man Utd, so may brief stink as a striker is over. In fact I’ve been playing right back and left back, as well as my favoured midfield position. I
don’t want to earn the tag ‘utility player’, but I guess that having some versatility wont do me any harm. We’ve had a few ear bashings from the gaffer recently, but after doing everything but score against Wycombe he wasn’t so critical. Sometimes in football these things happen. But the lads have been up at Mottram Hall in Cheshire this week - having a bit of team building and playing golf. It’s good to have a break the usual routine, and maybe it’ll make that little bit of difference for the Grimsby game. With having a bit of a rest, it might just give us that freshness for the trip to Blundell Park, time will tell.
