Barnsley broke the hearts of promotion-chasing Tranmere with an injury-time equaliser at Prenton Park to secure a 1-1 draw.

In a thrilling Coca-Cola League One clash, Antony Kay was the Barnsley hero as he netted with a low left-foot shot through a crowded goalmouth before being booked for an over-zealous goal celebration.

Tranmere had looked set to record their ninth home victory after taking the lead with 17 minutes remaining.

Canadian Iain Hume fired home his ninth goal of the season from a Eugene Dadi knockdown following good work by Ryan Taylor.

Barnsley had enjoyed the better of the opening period, with Michael Boulding twice going close, but Brian Little's side began to get a grip of proceedings after the restart.

The game ended in uproar when a number of players became embroiled in various disputes, which resulted in referee Joe Ross booking Tranmere's Hume, Mark Rankine and Paul Hall - along with goalscorer Kay.
