The LDV Vans final was a great day out. Obviously after the game we were all disappointed but looking back we can’t really have any complaints.

We went down on the Friday and stayed in a hotel. We trained on the Saturday and had a look round the stadium; it was my first time there.

Coming out onto the pitch to play the game was wonderful. There was such a great atmosphere. And I wasn’t even nervous; I was more excited than anything. To be honest I was less nervous than at a normal game. Although the stadium was very impressive the pitch was a bit disappointing. I think that was mainly due to the rugby that’s played on there. The roof was on throughout the game, and you don’t notice once the game gets underway.

I was playing in midfield as we had a few players out injured and cup tied. I have played in this position before so it’s not completely alien to me but I do prefer to be in defence.

We didn’t get off to a good start as they got an early goal. I’ve not had a chance to see the video of it but some of the lads have and they reckoned it was offside. That put us on the back foot and we were then chasing the game. We had a few chances; I even had a couple of shots! I’m not used to that really so when the opportunity came I just belted it, it felt good but it would have felt even better if it had gone in!

To be honest Blackpool had more chances and we can’t really moan. My parents and sister were there watching and it was a great experience.

I didn’t play in the league game after that against Carlisle and I came on as a sub against Scunthorpe. We’ve got a couple of games over the Easter period, Huddersfield on Saturday and Darlington on Monday. We’ve been playing well recently so a couple more points from those games and we won’t be worried about relegation anymore and we’ll be able to really enjoy the remainder of the season.

I saw Derby play on Saturday as we had played on the Friday night and they were not playing too well. I’ve still got friends there and I’m hopeful that they’ll avoid relegation. The table is very congested at the bottom, with not many points separating a number of clubs so there’s still a chance.
