Transfer listed

Stephen Hunt has been placed on the transfer list at Griffin Park at the mutual consent of both the player and the management staff at the League-one side in order to increase the player’s International chances.

Hunt (Stephen) still has a year left on his contract at Brentford but, with ambitions to break into Brian Kerr's Republic of Ireland squad in the future, Allen has allowed Hunt the chance to find a club in a higher division.

Hunt, who scored 13 goals for The Bees last season, has already earned Irish U21 honours like his Brother Noel, and Allen knows the player will need to move on if he is to make the jump to senior international football.

"After a friendly chat between (chief scout) John Griffin, Stephen and myself, we have agreed to put him on the transfer list and we will happily listen to offers for his services," Allen told the club's official website.

"I must make it absolutely clear there has been no fall out, it is a mutual decision and if Stephen Hunt is still here in a few weeks' time, he will be 100 percent committed to Brentford Football Club for the season ahead."

Last summer (2003) Stephen had been strongly linked with a move to Brighton & Hove Albion, but what with the financial restrictions at Steve Coppell’s club, the Seagulls could not have met the tribunal set fee required for Hunts services because of his age.
