Jamie's Barcelona night!?
Max Elliott (he wishes!)

We had a good time on the pitch at Crook last week in winning 10 –1, we also had a good time off the pitch - laughing at Jamie McClen. I, along with Jamie, Stevie Caldwell, Darren Ambrose, and Adam Bartlett were all substituted at half time. Stevie and I were first into the showers and although they were initially hot, after a minute or two – just as Jamie was about to have his shower, the water started to turn cold. At this point Jamie went back into the dressing room and on opening the dressing room door, asked a Crook Town official “any hot water please”. The official replied “Aye, give me 5 minutes”. Sure enough, we got a knock on the door a few minutes later, in walked the official with jug of hot water!!!!! You should have seen Jamie’s face!!!

Jamie’s night just got better – after eventually getting changed, we all went through into the committee room to watch what was left of the second half. Jamie was talking to a girl who must have been aged around 9 years old. She had a jumbo word search book and Jamie asked if he could have a go. At this point I had to chuckle to myself, but it got even better – after a couple of minutes I looked over his shoulder and he’d found about five words. Ten minutes later though and he’s still on five words before he said “argh..I’m bored with this” and gave up!! Don’t think his mum will be impressed – she’s a teacher!

Any way, I know that he’s been giving David Beherall (now of Oldham) a hard time with some stories on his web site – so the above story helps to put the record straight!!

I’d also like to congratulate the England Rugby Union squad – what a fantastic achievement! I’ll be honest and tell you that I’ve never been as up tight and emotional about a sporting moment before – this includes anything to do with football! Even my two boys and flying around the house with a rugby ball – Ethan plays Jonny Wilkinson and Max is Jason Robinson. The latter has already put holes in his pyjamas when ‘scoring a try’ in the lounge!! I’ve made a promise to myself to get down to Twickenham for a six nations game, and I think there’ll be a few on the gate at Kingston Park on Saturday!

Whilst I’m congratulating England, I’ll also say well done to Brad Orr. The Scouser has been plugging away in the reserve team over the last couple of seasons and was called up into the squad for the Man City game. His hard work has paid off and I’m sure it’s the start of a big push for first team action – he’s also a good lad – so once again - well done Brad.
