It’s good to report that our partnership with Barry Venison’s ‘Bid4Sport’ web site has gone very well. We officially launched the web sites at St. James a couple of weeks ago, and this coincided with the auctioning of the shirt Alan Shearer wore in the 2-2 draw at Anfield. Bidding was so competitive that Barry decided to extend the auction another a few days. The previous record for a shirt auction had been set by Matt Le Tissier, this raised £2000 for charity. However the great news is that Alan’s shirt beat the previous record by £100 – so a cheque for £2100 is on it’s way to William’s trust fund. It looks like the man himself will be able to present the shirt on the pitch just before the Southampton game. The winning bid came from Lynne Clarke, a season ticket holder who travels to the games from her Mansfield home. Well done Lynne!

The Shearer shirt got us off to a great start, next under the hammer was Dabi’s ‘Official Player Site’ T shirt (worn at the site launch), and this went for £81. Also to follow are both my and Jamie McClen’s T shirts from the launch, signed shirts from Chelsea, Hull, Sunderland, Watford, Sheff Wednesday and a used and worn England shirt signed by Bryan Robson. Additionally, signed goalkeeper gloves from Shay Given, boots signed by myself, and a Newcastle ‘Masters’ shirt signed by both the Newcastle and Liverpool squads at this year’s Masters Final will also be available.

The Robson and Shearer shirts are also taking pride of place at a South Manchester event to launch a further Barry Venison website; www.autographedbookstore.com There’s a number of footballing celebrities attending, Andy Cole, Dwight Yorke, Brad Friedal, to name the Blackburn boys, so it should be a good do. I also understand that all registered users of Official Player Sites will be receiving news of a generous discount scheme. Anyone interested should click on the ‘Official Player Sites’ link at the top left of the page, then select the ‘Email list’ icon at the bottom of the menu.
