With the PFA being called in to advise the club on our financial problems, it’s a bit of a worrying time. I’d like to say that all the players will look to do all we can to help Gillingham through this difficult time, but it’s a worry for us. We’re talking about deferring 20% of our wages, and that’s quite a chunk. My wife and I are expecting our first baby in the summer, and as a dad you want to provide all you can for your family. I’m happy to make some adjustments to my lifestyle but with having responsibilities to both my club and my family, I hope the financial situation will improve shortly.

With three points from the Crewe game, it was very disappointing to go down to Wimbledon last weekend. Maybe we were a little complacent, we did expect to beat Wimbledon, but on the day they were the better side and to be honest, they deserved the points. Now we face a Coventry side led by Gary McCallister, and excellent player who’s still be respected when he’s well into his thirties. They’re just above us in the table – which is still pretty tight – and it's interesting to see that we’re eight points off the play-off positions, yet only six off relegation!

I watched last night’s game at the Millenium with a great deal of disappointment. I thought the boys did very well to get a draw in Russia and it was never going to be easy last night. Although they might not all be household names, the Russian’s have some real quality and I’d expect one or two of them to be joining Alexei Smertin I the Premiership.

If there’s a silver lining to the cloud, it’s a personal hope that I may be called up for selected in the full squad. I haven’t spoken to Mark Hughes about his plans, but as we begin the World Cup qualification process, he may be calling on younger blood. There’s a few players who could make progression to the senior squad, David Bourne at Crewe and David Pipe from Coventry being good examples. Time will tell, but I’m ambitious and playing for my nation is certainly a target of mine. But first, it’s Coventry on Saturday.
