The Sage Soccer Festival - 16/07/2003
The SAGE soccer festival kicks off a week today and we’ve interest from teams in Canada, the USA, Malta, Nigeria, Holland and Belgium. We’re confident this year’s tournament will be bigger and better than ever. We have a number of social events taking place, including the Pro/Celebrity charity game, Festival BBQ and Party, mini-soccer competition and tournament disco. We look forward to welcoming all teams in 2003, even if you’re not part of a team, why not come down and take in the Pro/Celebrity game on the evening of Saturday the 26th. In addition to myself, we hopeful that players such as Les Ferdinand, John Beresford, Rob Lee, and a number of ex-Boro and Sunderland boys will take part. There’s also a few of the TV sports reporters taking part, and even Lomana Lua Lua’s 17 year old cousin is playing – so I’m sure we’ll have a good time. There’ll be a bar and bar-be-que as well as plenty of attractions to keep the kids happy.
The tournament takes place at East Durham & Houghall Community College - a specialist Sports College opposite the Durham University pitches where Newcastle used to train. For those of you who don’t know the area, the college is five minuets from Durham City - 15 miles south of Newcastle and 10 miles west of Sunderland. We’ve worked hard to build on previous year’s success, and the tournament programme looks as follows…
