It’s going to be an interesting game
Let's hope we'll be there in March

We enjoyed the Mansfield game and our reward is tonight’s game with Oldham. When you’re looking to progress in the cup, there’s two things that you appreciate; a home draw, and secondly a draw against a team from division below. Well, we’ve got them both – but it certainly isn’t going to be easy!

I’ve known Iain Dowie for some time – he’s good mates with Alan Shearer, and I also know that he’s got Oldham playing very well. Yesterday he was awarded the Division Two Manager of the Month Award, so it’s fair to say they’re in a rich vein of form. Mick Wadsworth, who I knew from his time at Newcastle is a great organiser, he spent a few months at Oldham and I guess that Iain’s been able to grow the club after building on Mick’s foundations. I also know Dave Beherall, who played a few first team game with me at Newcastle before moving to Oldham where he’s really enjoying himself. They’ll come to Pride Park in a confident mood with no pressure on them – something that we’re very aware of.

I’m a fan of both domestic cup competitions, I know a lot of people knock the Worthington’s Cup but it brings a bit of variety and ultimately the chance of European football. How many Blackburn Rovers fans didn’t enjoy the game at Cardiff’s Millenium stadium and lifting the trophy last season? Not many I bet! Firstly it’s Oldham.
