History

The local Sunday school at St Domingo's Church decided to form a football club in 1878, playing at Stanley Park. In November 1879 due to the great enthusiasm they decided to expand the membership and changed their name to Everton. Everton's initial colours were Black shirts with a scarlet sash and were nicknamed the 'Black Watch'. Everton did not adopt their familiar royal blue colours until 1901 The Toffees have won the league nine times, 1891, 1915, 1928, 1932, 1939, 1963, 1970, 1985 and 1987. They have won the F.A Cup on five occasions 1906, 1933, 1966, 1984 and 1995. Their solitary European success came in 1985 when they won the European Cup Winners Cup.Everton's FA Cup Final match v Manchester City in 1933, was the first match to involve shirt numbers.
